The main mosque was built in 772 AD and renovated in the 12th century. The minaret and the arched wall are archaeological evidence of this era. The 25-metre-high minaret is octagonal in section and has two balconies decorated with Kufic decorations. While the original mosque fell into disrepair and was dismantled by local farmers for construction materials, the minaret survived due to its natural limestone foundation.
