Al-Maqbi Souq

One of the oldest traditional markets in the region, al-Souq al-Maqbi—literally “the Vaulted Market”—stands as a living testament to Ottoman-style commercial architecture. The market earned its name from sections that were roofed with stone vaults, giving it a distinctive ambiance of shade and coolness, ideal for trade in a warm climate.

Historically known as the Bazaar, it once served as a vibrant hub for traditional crafts and artisanal trades. By the 1950s, many of the old residential buildings surrounding it were converted into shops, gradually giving the market its current form.
