Aleppo

Mashhad al-Nuqta

Religious Monuments

The scene is centered around a red rock, which, according to legend, was where the head of Hussein rested one night during his journey from Karbala, immortalizing the tears of the Ahl al-Bayt as a spiritual monument. The silver dome was built during the Hamdanid era and was redecorated by the governor of Aleppo, Osman Pasha, with mother-of-pearl tiles in 1653. Inside, there is an octagonal hall whose walls are intertwined with small mirrors that multiply the light from the lanterns, creating an infinite space. In the late 19th century, the phrase ‘Would that we were with you’ was added as a decorative element.
