Historical Schools

The Maqdamiyya School was closely linked to the development of inheritance sciences in Aleppo. In its essence, there is a vaulted school room, centered around a square patio surrounded by four arches with parallel pointed arches, reflecting the architectural influence of the Zengid era. The school’s entrance is adorned with a Kufic inscription, with a quote attributed to Ibn Qudamah on the virtue of studying inheritance law. In 1999, waqf authorities restored the dome, replacing its deteriorated lead layer with tin alloy sheets to reduce weight, while injecting lime mortar into micro-cracks for reinforcement. During the war, local committees preserved Waqf al-Sabil, ensuring that the water continued to flow to the drinking stone at the entrance, a tradition maintained for eight centuries. In 2021, the school was reopened as a small manuscript institute, showing the Treatise Al-Tibyan fi Taqsim al-Mirath and integrating augmented reality on a paper tablet to illustrate the legal action network, linking principles of inheritance to the historical site.
