Small Sultaniyah Madrasa

Historical Schools

“It was founded by King al-Zahir Ghazi near the souq to support poor students. It consists of a rectangular courtyard with a vaulted portico with sleeping rooms on both sides. The madrasa is characterized by an octagonal minaret, which stands on a cubic base. It also has a beautiful mihrab, topped by a triangular linear band, and its architecture is characterized by Ayyubid architecture: takya, terbah and madrasa. In 1995, the Waqf restored the stone tiles and the wooden gate with copper knockers. The madrasa was home to “”Sira”” classes and housed the digital “”Hadith Guardian”” program, which is taught via an interactive board and recorded for students in the natural echo dome. Sadly, it was destroyed on Sunday, 15 Safar 1436, corresponding to 7 December 2014.’”
