Religious Monuments

“Its name is associated with the Holy Belt of the Virgin Mary, due to its presence there, and because of its historical, archaeological, and spiritual value. It is the seat of the Diocese of Homs, Hama, and Tartous. The church holds a belt said to have been left by the Virgin Mary to Saint Thomas, kept inside a silver storeroom that is opened on the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. There is a wooden bell tower that combines Syriac and Russian styles. The lower hall, ””the Holy Belt cellar, served as a refuge during the 1915 massacres, and the names of survivors were documented on its walls. In 2017, the turquoise windows were restored. The Shorouki choir performs liturgical hymns in Aramaic. The hologram application allows visitors to explore the details of the Holy Belt without touching the relic .
