Monastery of Mar Musa al-Habashi

Religious Monuments

The Monastery of Mar Musa is located at an altitude of 1320 meters above the arid Nabk Valley, serving as a living canvas of desert monasticism. Built in the 6th century, its church is adorned with frescoes from the 11th-12th centuries, depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments in a didactic Byzantine style. After a dormant period of five centuries, Father Paolo Dall’Oglio revived it in 1992, turning it into a center for interfaith dialogue between Muslims and Christians.
