Jandal Castle rises atop one of Mount Hermon’s shoulders, rebuilt in 1015 CE by Emir Jandal ibn Qays as an early Druze stronghold guarding the mountain routes leading to Wadi al-Taym. The fortress is encircled by dark basalt walls, while a Kufic inscription on the western gate reflects a distinct Fatimid phase. The castle once played a defensive role against the Crusaders, later serving in the Ottoman period as a grain depot and tax collection center.
