Jebri House

Heritage Houses

Built in 1737, Jebri House stands as one of the oldest surviving Damascene residences. It is located on Anbar Library Street (Jadda alSawwaf) in Old Damascus. The entire house is lavishly decorated with traditional Eastern mosaics and tiles. Though later transformed into a restaurant, Jebri House retains its authentic Damascene character and original layout.

Special Details

Jebri House is distinguished by its exemplary symmetry and rich geometric design. The main hall consists of three raised platforms (tarazat) elevated half a meter above the courtyard floor, converging on a central marble pool called fustuqiyya. The walls of the hall are decorated in ablaq masonry, also known as amlaq, carved with geometric patterns and painted in aged tinted plaster. Mamluk era, 14th century AD.
