Located in the heart of the popular Al-Midan neighborhood, Al-Rifai Hammam stands as a testament to the traditional Damascene bathing ritual dating back to the 15th century. Its Mamluk architectural design transitions gradually from the cool barrani (outer) section to the warm jawani (inner) chambers through vaulted corridors adorned with alternating ablaq stonework.
The star-shaped domes allow natural light to disinfect the space, casting shadows that accentuate the aromatic steam of eucalyptus and local Damascene roses, scents for which the hammam is famously known.
