Al-Mansouri Al-Zaheri Great Mosque

Religious Monuments

The Great Al-Mansouri Al-Zahiri Mosque features an open-air courtyard with a well at its center, surrounded by a marble column-shaped crown. An eastern portico supported by stone arches leads to the mosque’s rectangular prayer hall. This hall is topped by five domes, symbolizing the Five Pillars of Islam, with the central dome resting on Ayyubid muqarnas.
Eight windows in the southern wall represent the gates of Paradise. An Ayyubid minaret stands on the western side, incorporating a sundial used to determine prayer times. An Inaliyah school, built in 1422 during the reign of Prince Inal al-Nawruzi al-Tarabulsi, is attached to the mosque’s western side. This school contains classrooms and stone tablets inscribed with sultanic decrees.
The mosque remains standing to this day.
