Al-Maqate’e Church

The Church of al-Maqate’ (Kanisat al-Maqate’) is considered one of the oldest Christian churches in the region, with its origins dating back to the 5th century CE.
The church was constructed following the architectural principles of the basilica, a style widely used in Byzantine ecclesiastical architecture. This layout typically includes a central nave flanked by aisles and an apse, reflecting both the spiritual and communal functions of early Christian worship spaces.
