One of the oldest Ottoman mosques in the city, Al-Awina Mosque was built in 1727 by Suleiman Pasha Al-Azm, the governor of Tripoli of Greater Syria, during the Tulip Era—a period noted for its architectural and cultural flourishing.
The mosque is located in the Al-Awina neighborhood, a district named for its abundance of natural springs and water sources.
Al-Awina Mosque features a distinct Ottoman architectural style, closely resembling that of the Valide Sultan Mosque in Istanbul, with its elegant dome and finely detailed stonework.
