Its history dates back to the 15th century BC, and it was an important defensive center during ancient times.
Only remnants of a wall and towers remain, and it has been incorporated into the residential neighborhood of Al-Qouz. It was mentioned in hieroglyphic inscriptions at the Karnak Temple and in the Tell el-Amarna letters as the Canaanite city of Uza.
In 2012, it was registered as an archaeological site as part of the Tartous Historic Sites Preservation Campaign.
