AlAqqad House

Heritage Houses

AlAqqad House is a fully realized Damascene mansion, with an Iwan and a central courtyard featuring a fountain, surrounded by multiple rooms across two levels. The upper floor was used in winter for its warmth, and the ground floor in summer for its coolness. Constructed during the Mamluk period in the 15th century, it underwent modifications over time without altering the central plan or the ablaq stone pattern (alternating black and white stone).

A monumental decorative panel commands the north façade، framed in seven ornate borders, set in colored stone blocks—black, yellow calcite, red mosaic—depicting the ancient Syrian solar discs with Arabic geometric motifs. This feature makes AlAqqad one of Damascus’s most significant architectural artworks.
