Babiqa Basilica

Religious Monuments

Babisqa Basilica The site of Babisqa, dating back to the Byzantine era, is spread over a modern village on the northeastern edge of Mount Barisha. The site contains the remains of many villas and churches, some of which are well preserved. Here can also be found one of the most intricately carved stone entrances among Byzantine ruins in the limestone block. It also forms a rare example of preserving a complete basilica façade with a central entrance, adjacent to an open baptismal font. It is used as a study field for Italian students to understand the proportions of the columns and their role in earthquake resistance.
