Beit Al-Wali exemplifies the successful transformation of Damascene houses into luxurious hospitality establishments that preserve the spirit of the place. The original building dates to the 18th century when the Ottoman Wali of Damascus resided there, before suffering neglect and partial structural damage. An investment family purchased it in 2005 and launched a restoration project in collaboration with the Directorate General of Antiquities, preserving all original elements from painted ceilings to wooden doors with massive iron keys, while subtly integrating modern hotel services behind thick walls. The hotel offers traditional Damascene meals in its summer iwan and organizes guided tours on the art of wood ornamentation for guests, making it an active contributor to heritage tourism and revitalizing the Al-Amin district.
