Dating back to the 14th century, the oldest market in the city stretches 180 meters south of the historic waterwheels (Nawaoir). Its vaulted wooden roof, supported by semi-pointed basalt arches, speaks to centuries of commerce.
In 2019, the municipality undertook a significant restoration, replacing the modern metal sheets with traditional Mamluk-era roof tiles and unifying the shop facades. Today, this vibrant market is home to traditional spice and Homsi soap merchants, serving as a vital hub that is breathing new economic life into the heart of the historic city.
