Located south of the Umayyad Mosque, the Buzuriyah Market has been the heart of the spice and medical supplies trade in Damascus since the Ayyubid era. At 150 meters long, the market features a curved wooden roof that allows moisture to drain away and preserves the flavor of dried herbs. In the 19th century, it became a transit point for European caravans, and its shops were adorned with glass facades displaying bars of Aleppo soap and oriental spices.
