Damascus

Holy Cross Church

Religious Monuments

The Holy Cross Church holds the distinction of being the second most significant church in Damascus after the Mariamite Cathedral. It is situated in the Christian Quarter, an area that developed outside Damascus’s ancient walls in the late 19th century. The church was built on the site of the Holy Cross Monastery, which dates back to the early Christian centuries, lending the location its historical name, “Bustan al-Salib” (Garden of the Cross).
