Monastery of Mar Yaqub al-Muqatta (Qara)

Located north of Al-Qaryatayn on a mountain slope, this monastery dates back to the 6th century. It has preserved its Byzantine bell tower and living corridors carved into the rock. Despite the cessation of activities between 2014–2016, it sustained no damage. The monastery is integrated into the “Monasteries of the Qalamoun” trail, which aims to encourage spiritual tourism between Damascus and Homs.
