The site is believed to be named after the revered companion Masoud ibn Umm Hani. It has been continuously inhabited from the Bronze Age to the Byzantine period. Excavations began in 1975 by a Syrian-French mission, revealing significant discoveries such as royal palaces, tombs, and industrial facilities—evidence of its role as a cultural and commercial hub in antiquity. Today, Ras Ibn Hani is primarily a tourist destination and a popular site for visitors.
