Salakhid Castle is one of the oldest fortresses in southern Syria, with origins tracing back to the Arameans, later developed by the Nabateans and utilized by the Romans. During the Crusader era, it fell into the hands of the Franks, before being reclaimed and further fortified by the Ayyubids.
The castle played a vital strategic role in securing trade and pilgrimage routes, and it served as a stronghold for defense against invasions—a testament to its enduring significance across centuries of shifting powers.
