The Sarouja neighborhood is known as “Little Damascus” due to its architectural richness, which encapsulates the city’s transformations from the 14th century to the present day. Established by the Mamluks as a logistics center outside the city walls, it was home to inns and houses with internal courtyards, and canals were constructed to irrigate the orchards. The neighborhood is famous for its winding alleys, wooden windows decorated with muqarnas, and small ceramic domes.
