Souk al-Sarujiyya has been located on the western side of the Damascus Citadel since the 14th century, when the saddlery and horse industry flourished. The souk was formerly known as the “Souk al-Sarayjiyya” before becoming a center for herbs and sweets. Stone vaults surround the eastern arch, part of which is covered by a wooden ceiling, reflecting dim light, giving the street a magical, misty atmosphere.
