Temple of Bel

Also known as the Temple of Baal Shamin, meaning “Lord of the Heavens”, this ancient Canaanite temple was dedicated to the worship of the god Baal — the deity of fertility, rain, and storms.

The temple is located on the acropolis, the sacred hill of Ras Shamra (ancient Ugarit), and dates back to the 12th century BCE.

One of the most significant discoveries at the site is the famous Stele of Baal, a striking artifact that reflects the religious and artistic richness of the period.
