Temple of the God Zeus in Thanawat

Religious Monuments

The Temple of Qanawat is considered one of the greatest Roman temples in southern Syria, built in honor of the god Rios (Jupiter). It formed part of a comprehensive religious complex that included staircases, courtyards, massive columns, and a small attached theater. The temple flourished during the first and second centuries AD, and its remaining decorations exhibit the influence of local Syrian architectural styles blended with Roman elements.
